[SMM Analysis] New Developments in Anhui's Recycling Project

Published: Oct 31, 2025 19:50
Recently, the Hefei Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment officially accepted the environmental impact assessment application for the "Annual Processing of 75,000 mt of Lithium Battery Materials Recycling Project" submitted by a renewable resources enterprise in Anhui. According to the plan, the project is expected to construct three modern production workshops and supporting facilities, introduce advanced equipment such as crushers, vibrating screens, and grinding machines, and establish one battery cell crushing production line, three negative pole piece regeneration processing lines, and one positive pole piece regeneration treatment line.

Recently, the Hefei Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment officially accepted the environmental impact assessment application for the "Annual Processing of 75,000 mt Lithium Battery Materials Recycling Project" from a renewable resource enterprise in Anhui province. According to the plan, the project will construct three modern production workshops and supporting facilities, introduce advanced equipment such as crushers, vibrating screens, and grinding machines, and establish one battery cell crushing production line, three negative pole piece regeneration processing lines, and one positive pole piece regeneration processing line.

Upon completion, the project is expected to process approximately 75,000 mt of various types of scrap LFP/ternary lithium battery cells and components annually, effectively alleviating the battery recycling pressure brought by the rapid development of Anhui province's NEV industry. By adopting advanced physical sorting and hydrometallurgy processes, the project can achieve efficient recovery of valuable metals such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel, with an estimated metal recovery rate of over 95%.

In terms of environmental protection measures, the project will be equipped with a comprehensive waste gas treatment system, including acid mist absorption towers, bag filters, and activated carbon adsorption devices, ensuring that waste gas emissions comply with the "Integrated Emission Standard of Air Pollutants." Wastewater treatment will adopt the "coagulation sedimentation + reverse osmosis" process, achieving a wastewater reuse rate of over 85%. Simultaneously, the project will establish a digital environmental monitoring platform for real-time monitoring of pollutant emissions during the production process.

The implementation of this project will promote the closed-loop development of Anhui province's NEV industry chain, forming good complementarity with local battery manufacturing enterprises. According to estimates, after the project is put into operation, it can reduce mineral resource extraction by approximately 100,000 mt and lower carbon dioxide emissions by about 30,000 mt annually, providing important support for Anhui province to achieve its "dual carbon" goals.

Currently, the project has entered the environmental impact assessment public notification stage and is expected to be completed and operational by the end of 2025. This project is not only a key link in Anhui province's new energy strategic layout but also provides a demonstration model for the construction of the power battery recycling system in the Yangtze River Delta region.

In January, national passenger car producers' new energy wholesale estimates reached 900,000 units, up 1% YoY.
According to the latest data from the Passenger Car Association, in December 2025, producers with new energy wholesale sales exceeding 10,000 units accounted for 93% of the total wholesale sales of passenger NEVs that month. Based on preliminary January data, these producers achieved sales of 830,000 units in January. As most producers have already locked in their major sales figures, by applying the structural proportion from the previous month to the current month's data, the estimated wholesale sales of passenger NEVs nationwide in January were 900,000 units. According to comprehensive preliminary monthly association data: the estimated wholesale sales of NEVs by national passenger car producers in January 2026 were 900,000 units, up 1% YoY.
